

The Zoning Commission prepares the Zoning Resolution, schedules and holds public hearings on the following: Permits for structures on parcels of property that abut state highways may also require approval from the Ohio Department of Transportation. Permits for structures and uses that do not conform to the Resolution can be issued pursuant to an Order from the Board of Zoning Appeals. The Zoning Office issues permits for structures and uses that conform and enforce the Resolution. (Prior to any of the above, please contact the Zoning Inspector.)

Agriculture is generally exempt from zoning as a matter of law.

Violations may subject the violator to fines of $100.00 per day for each separate offense. The Resolution requires that landowners in the unincorporated area of Liberty Township secure permits before building houses and additions thereto, including rooms, decks, porches, outbuildings (such as barns and garages), and other structures this also includes swimming pools, signs, and fences. The purpose of zoning is to protect the health, safety and welfare of Liberty Township residents while providing for the orderly development of the Township. Liberty Township regulates building and land use in the unincorporated area, pursuant to authority in the Ohio Revised Code and the adoption of the Liberty Township Zoning Resolution ratified by voters in 1960 and subsequently amended from time to time.
